SPEAKERS, SPEAKERS EVERYWHERE BUT NOT A SOUND DO THEY MAKE

How to install and/or troubleshoot your 70volt PA system

The two diagrams below represent a typical 70 volt PA system.  Diagram 1 shows  how speakers are hooked to the amplifier terminals.  Note that one side of your speaker wires will go to the “70v” terminal and the other will go to “COM” or common.  DO NOT HOOK THIS SIDE TO THE GROUND TERMINAL!  Your speakers will not function at all if you do this.  Diagram 2 illustrates what is going on inside of your amplifier.  Note that the 4ohm terminal and “GRND” are next to each other, there is a good reason that they are next to each other they go together.  The 70 volt terminal is closer to the “COM” terminal for this same reason.

To troubleshooting a problem in your system use the “25v” terminal to prevent amplifier overload.  Switch back to the 70v terminal when you have cleared the short.  To speed up troubleshooting order the Stor-Com Z1-F impedance bridge.
